photomonth the east london photography festival will take place in galleries & spaces around East London & the City during October & November 2009.
photomonth is the only photography festival in London and the largest in the UK. It focusses on East London, the fastest developing area of the city. Last year there were over 100 exhibitions and events held in more than 70 galleries and spaces involving over 500 photographers.
Photography in all its forms may be featured, from art installation to social documentary. The aim of photomonth is to focus on photography as an art form and powerful tool of contemporary communication.
Galleries are invited to participate in this event at some point during October/November 2009. Curators may select their own photographers for exhibition or call Alternative Arts for a list of suggested photographers that they may contact directly.
Photographers should contact galleries directly to apply for an exhibition or create their own space for a show or exhibit online. A list of galleries with map may be provided on request, please send a stamped addressed envelope to Alternative Arts.
The photomonth brochure lists all participating galleries/spaces giving details of each exhibition and featuring a location map. Brochures are widely distributed free of charge all over London and beyond to other cities across the world so that photomonth receives international recognition. Alternative Arts produces the brochure and provides information on photomonth to the Press and Public.
The photomonth website www.photomonth.org carries all the latest festival information, features every exhibition and event plus updates, and is linked to photography festivals around the world, reaching a global audience.
